Dick Manitoba and his ex-girlfriend hit with orders or protection

The rift between former Dictators front man Richard (Handsome Dick) Manitoba and his ex-girlfriend Lara (Zoe) Hansen continued to play out in a Manhattan courtroom on Monday, where an order of protection was issued against a stunned Hansen.
The order is in response to a Feb. 6 incident in which Hansen allegedly walked out of Manitoba’s bar in the East Village with several bottles of booze and $ 20 in cash before shattering a glass door with her foot.
Hansen, who sometimes bartends at Manitoba’s, has denied breaking the door or stealing liquor and says the $ 20 was to buy dinner for the 15-year-old son she has with Manitoba. That case is slated to go before a judge in early June.

There were media reports that Hansen also tossed a bottle through one of the barroom windows, though that wasn’t listed among the charges against Hansen. She calls that claim “100% false.”
Manitoba, 64, was not in the courtroom on Monday, but it’ll be his turn to play defendant on May 3 in response to charges that he assaulted Hansen during a Feb. 2 dustup in an apartment they co-own in the East Village, days before her stormy visit to Manitoba’s bar.

Manitoba’s attorney, Frank Rothman, said, “I’m hoping there will be a resolution that will not include any admission of guilt on criminal charges” in that case.
Bronx native Manitoba, born Richard Blum, is a seminal figure in the East Village punk scene, where his bands frequently played at CBGB along with the Ramones, Talking Heads and Television. Music site Californiarocker.com reported Feb. 9 that the Dictators had ceased to be a band, citing the fact that their dictatorsnyc.com web page no longer exists.
Hansen, 51, attended Monday’s arraignment with a public defender as well as her friend, musician Joe Hurley. She will be back in court in June to answer to the charges against her.
“In a #Me Too era, this is an outrage,” Hansen said. “I left court the same way I came — not knowing why I was being charged. I was the victim of abuse by my ex. Now I have an order of protection against me.”
