A Woman Got Fired for Baking Laxative Brownies for Her Coworker’s Goodbye Party

Revenge is sweet—and so are brownies. Coincidentally, a combination of the two lead to the firing of one Michigan woman.
A 47-year-old employee of MMI Engineered Solutions lost her job after bringing laxative-laced brownies to a co-worker’s going away party. She couldn’t just sign the card like everybody else.

The Cut reported that the company intervened before anyone could eat the brownies, confiscated the confections, and proceeded to call the police. Saline Police Chief Jerrod Hart told the Ann Arbor News that the woman originally denied that her secret ingredient was actually a cube of laxatives, but later confessed when she was told the brownies would be tested for tampering.
Some employees at the engineering company told police that there was previous drama and tension between the baneful baker and the departing employee, neither of whose names have been released, USA Today reported.
“A lot of times you see it in movies or TV shows where someone tries to do this or play a joke, but it’s very serious,” Hart said. “It’s a criminal act.”

The woman wasn’t charged with anything, but it’s fair to say she landed on her (now ex) coworkers’ shit-lists.
This isn’t the first time police have gotten involved in baking debacles. Back in 2016, the Omaha World Herald reported on an incident in which a home economics teacher was fed semen frosting by the worst freshman boys in the history of freshman boys. All three of the students faced misdemeanor charges.
And just this year, a Brooklyn woman allegedly poisoned her friend’s cheesecake. Why ruin a perfectly good cheesecake? Because the frenemies had similar-looking features, and the perpetrator wanted to steal her identity, the New York Daily News reported at the time.
Anyway, the world is a wild place. If there’s a lesson in all this, it’s to be wary of any food that your coworkers brought from home. You never know who might still be salty you got that promotion before they did. And please, respect cheesecake.
