Apple and (RED) Teamed Up with Phoebe Robinson to Release the New Red iPhone

If that tax return money is burning a hole in your pocket, put it toward a good cause. Starting today, you can get your hands on the (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus in Apple Stores around the globe. The special edition, like others before in the 11-year partnership, is one way of supporting the mission of (RED), founded in 2006 by Bono and Bobby Shriver. Proceeds from each purchase go to provide testing, counseling, and treatment for people living with HIV/AIDs.

To launch the new phone, Apple and (RED) teamed with Phoebe Robinson, the comedian/writer/actress best known for co-hosting the 2 Dope Queens podcast on WNYC and HBO, to be an ambassador for the latest campaign. It was Robinson’s passion for women’s health and admiration for the work that (RED) does that led her to lobby the organization for an opportunity to work together.
“HIV/AIDS is the number one killer of women of a reproductive age, which is a demo that I fall into, so it’s very personal for me,” Robinson told Esquire. “It’s a very serious subject matter—it’s intense, it’s scary—and a lot of people aren’t really sure how to talk about it. And to be able to do what I do with comedy, I can still be that, and I can help raise awareness for the disease and remind people that there’s still a lot to do.”
